This happened many years ago. I switched on the TV one evening and the scene was a mother talking to her friend about her sick child. “When John was born,” said the mother, “he was such a perfect, beautiful baby. I didn’t ask God what I did to deserve him. But he became ill and I had to watch his condition deteriorate, you bet I asked God what I did to deserve this.”
What the mother said made me stop and think. How many times have I done something similar? When good things happened, I didn’t ask why I deserved it. When things went wrong, I asked, why me?
Have you ever been in a similar situation? So often, we take things for granted but the moment something doesn’t go our way, we start questioning why it happens. What did we do to deserve something so horrible and painful?
When things are well and life is good, how often do we stop to give gratitude for the blessings that we receive?
“Some people go through life trying to find out what the world holds for them only to find out too late that it’s what they bring to the world that counts.” ~Anne of Greene Gables
